September 1, 2009 was the day Hawke Robinson and Michael Martinez, co-hosts of Middle-earth Talk Radio, got together (via Skype) to record their 15th episode. By this time the digital duo had survived MERPCon (Tolkien Moot) V and were back in the saddle, ready to rastle with the latest issues concerning fans of J.R.R. Tolkien and Middle-earth.
By now fans had come to expect a roundup of the latest Tolkien-specific news. Discussion wrapped up news from MERPCon V and drifted into Tolkien-related events at Dragon*Con in Atlanta (being held the following weekend), including a viewing of “The Hunt for Gollum”, a fan-made movie semi-set in Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” universe.
The conversation wandered as often happens into some light-hearted topics, including casting Tom Cruise as Bilbo Baggains (that didn’t happen). And some of the information is outdated (such as the announcement that “The Hobbit” would not be filmed in 3-D — Peter Jackson has since announced his intention to subject Middle-earth fans to the discomfort of wearing goofy glasses).
Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien and Middle-earth are invited to stream online or download Middle-earth Talk Radio Episode 15 from the Middle-earth Radio Website.
